Meritto Alternative for Boutique Education Agents
Meritto is sold by demo with no published price and, per Capterra, no free trial. Here is what a 1-15 counsellor placement agency can actually verify before booking that call - and the six questions that make any CRM demo comparable.
Short answer: Meritto is a broad, education-wide platform sold through a demo — its price is not published, and Capterra lists no free trial and no free version. enrollo is a narrow product for 1–15 counsellor placement agencies, with prices on the website and a 14-day trial you can start without talking to anyone. If your business spans more than placement — an institution, a school, a coaching centre — Meritto covers ground enrollo does not. If you place students abroad and chase the commission afterwards, read on.

Who we are, and what we are not pretending
enrollo is a small, self-funded CRM for boutique study-abroad agencies: one to fifteen counsellors, placing students with institutions and getting paid a commission for it. We have no analyst badges and no leaderboard position, so this page cites only two things — public sources about Meritto and our own published pricing. Every claim links to somewhere you can check it yourself.
We have not used Meritto's product. So this page compares what a buyer can verify before signing, not a feature-by-feature teardown we would be inventing. Where Meritto is ahead, we say so, and there are three places where it clearly is.
The comparison
| What a buyer checks | Meritto (public sources) | enrollo |
|---|---|---|
| Published price | No. Capterra lists the starting price as "Contact vendor"; Techjockey lists it as "Price on request." | Yes. Solo $23/mo, Team $63/mo, Agency $119/mo, on the pricing page. Annual billing takes 20% off. |
| Free trial | Capterra lists free trial: not available and free version: not offered. | 14 days, no card required. |
| Who the product is built around | The whole education market. Capterra's typical-customer list runs from freelancers to enterprises and names higher-education institutions, K-12 schools, EdTech platforms, coaching centres and study-abroad consultancies. | One customer: the placement agency with 1–15 counsellors. |
| Seat model | Not publicly disclosed. | Flat tier. Agency is $119/mo for up to 15 counsellors — the 6th counsellor and the 15th cost the same as the 5th. |
| Students included | Not publicly disclosed. | Unlimited on every tier. |
| Commission tracked through to collection | Meritto's public pages describe the enquiry-to-enrolment journey. We could not find a public page describing agent commission tracked through invoicing and payment — ask them directly rather than taking our word for it. | The core of the product. Commission is tracked on the application through to collected. |
| Native mobile apps | Yes — Capterra lists web, Android and iPhone/iPad. | No. Web only, responsive on a phone. |
| Support channels | Broader — Capterra lists phone support, chat and a 24/7 live representative, plus in-person and live online training. | Email. We are small; that is the honest answer. |
| Collecting fees from students in-product | Yes — electronic payments and customisable forms are listed among its core admissions features. | No. enrollo tracks what institutions owe you. It does not collect application fees from students. |
Take this into any demo — including ours
The hardest part of buying quote-only software is that you cannot compare until you have already spent an hour. Here is the shortest list we know of that makes one demo call comparable to the next. Print it, use it on Meritto, use it on us, use it on whoever else is on your shortlist.
| # | Ask | A good answer sounds like | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | "What does this cost for my exact headcount, in writing, today?" | A number, or a written quote before you hang up. | "It depends" with no number by the end of the call. |
| 2 | "What happens to the price when I add my 6th counsellor mid-season?" | Either a flat tier, or a per-seat rate you can multiply yourself. | A pause. Peak season is exactly when you add people. |
| 3 | "Show me one student from enquiry to commission collected — not to enrolled." | They keep clicking past enrolment into invoice and payment. | The demo ends at "enrolled." That is where your money problem starts. |
| 4 | "Which deadline fields are tracked per application, not per student?" | Offer expiry, deposit date, CAS/CoE, visa — each on its own application. | One date field per student. Your students apply to four institutions. |
| 5 | "If I cancel in month four, what do I get out, and in what format?" | Self-serve export to CSV or similar, no ticket required. | "Contact support." Your student list is your business. |
| 6 | "What is the contract minimum, and is there an onboarding fee?" | Monthly, no setup fee — or a stated figure you can budget. | An annual lock-in disclosed only at signature. |
Two of these — 3 and 4 — are where boutique agencies most often discover after purchase that they bought an enquiry tool rather than a commission tool. Neither question takes more than a minute to ask.
What the comparison rows actually mean
Quote-only pricing is not a trick, but it is a cost
Plenty of good software sells by demo. The reason it matters at five people is that it moves the evaluation out of your evening and into someone's calendar. You cannot line two products up after the last counselling session; you have to book a call, sit through it, and wait for a number. If that number then depends on your headcount, your modules and your contract length, you are negotiating rather than shopping.
Published pricing is the opposite trade, and it is not strictly better. You see the number immediately — and you get no negotiation, no volume discount, no custom module. For a large group that is a worse deal. For an owner-operator who wants to know tonight whether this is a $23 decision or a $2,000 one, it is the better one.
Scope decides whose problems get solved next
Meritto is built for education broadly: institutions, schools, EdTech, coaching centres and consultancies all appear in its public customer profile. That breadth is real value if your business spans more than placement. It also means the roadmap serves many masters, and a fifteen-counsellor placement agency is one voice among them.
enrollo's scope is deliberately narrow — student, application, deadline, commission. That is a limitation as much as a focus. There is no admissions module for an institution, no fee collection, no coaching-centre batch management. If you need those, a narrow product will fail you, and you should buy the broad one.
Where Meritto is simply ahead
- Native iOS and Android apps. If your counsellors work from their phones between campus visits, a responsive web app is a compromise and theirs is not.
- 24/7 live support with a phone number. An outage during CAS week is not a support-ticket problem. Our answer here is email, and that is a real difference.
- In-product payments and custom forms. If you collect application or service fees from students, Meritto lists that capability; enrollo does not do it at all.
Where the narrow product earns its place
A boutique agency's money does not leak at the enquiry stage. It leaks after the offer — at the deposit date nobody surfaced, the CAS or CoE window that closed, the invoice never raised, the payment that arrived at a different rate than the one agreed. Those are the events enrollo is built around, because they decide whether the placement you already worked for actually gets paid. We have written up the claim windows that close on you and the per-application deadlines behind question 4 in more detail.
Who should buy which
Buy Meritto if you run more than a placement desk — an institution, a school, a coaching centre — or you need mobile apps, phone support, or student fee collection, and you are comfortable with a sales-led evaluation.
Buy enrollo if you are 1–15 counsellors placing students abroad, you want to see the price and start the same evening, and the thing keeping you up is a commission you earned and have not been paid.
Buy neither if you place fewer than about a dozen students a year. A spreadsheet is genuinely fine at that size, and we have said so honestly elsewhere. If you are comparing more broadly, our boutique CRM shortlist and our KONDESK comparison cover the neighbouring options.
